The House of Commons held an important debate today on medical complications from surgical mesh, which has caused such devastation to many patients, particularly women. MPs from across the House spoke about how their constituents lives have been blighted.
Sling the Mesh campaigner and North East Cambridgeshire constituent Kath Sansom has led the campaign which resulted in today’s debate, and was one of many sat in the public gallery.
The debate highlighted both the progress being made in raising awareness of this issue, and a number of ongoing concerns. I welcome the news that the draft NICE guidelines will be brought forward for release this year and I will continue to liaise with colleagues in the Department of Health on this issue, particularly on the need to improve informed consent and patient safety data.
