I am pleased to announce that Read to Succeed has had another successful year and the campaign is going from strength to strength. Thanks to the kind donations from our community, over 2,500 children received a new book just in time for the school summer holidays, that is 1,000 more books than were donated last year.
In addition to this, the libraries in our area saw a 4% increase of children participating in The Summer Reading Challenge and “Yellow Token” starters from Read to Succeed were up on last year by a whopping 51%!
Taking part in The Summer Reading Challenge prevents the reading “dip” that often occurs during the school summer holidays, by encouraging children to read six books of their choice for fun. The yearly increase of Summer Reading Challenge participation in our area means more and more children are returning to school in September ready to learn.
I would like to thank all the community groups and businesses who have donated books this year and Cambridgeshire Libraries who run The Summer Reading Challenge for another successful year. I hope that all the children who participated this year had a fantastic time discovering new worlds and ideas via their books and I look forward to announcing the schools who have won Read to Succeed prizes soon.
