I am calling for a manned railway crossing to be made automatic and have written to Network Rail asking if there are plans to switch the crossing on Station Road, Whittlesey to an automatic barrier.

The move comes amid concerns about delays caused to drivers as a result of the time it takes to manually open and close the gates close to the town’s railway station.

I want to know if there are any plans to update the crossing to an automatic barrier and whether Network Rail has information on how much time this will save for drivers having to wait at the gates. It seems an anomaly that this busy crossing is still manually operated and would make perfect sense if it were automated.
