Following the enormous success of Read to Succeed last year, which delivered over 1,500 new books to children throughout North East Cambridgeshire and oversaw a 16% increase in children taking part in The Summer Reading Challenge at their local library, Steve Barclay will be running Read to Succeed again this year.
This year’s Read to Succeed theme is “Amazing Animals”, Lion Learners have been visiting every school in North East Cambridgeshire, bringing their very own amazing animals, and running exciting workshops. Children have been meeting the real life stars of the new books they will receive this summer, in a fun, interactive, handling session with a range of animals. These fantastic sessions have been kindly sponsored by Nestlé Purina PetCare factory in Wisbech.
Steve’s office are now receiving new book donations, until Wednesday 5th July, for Read to Succeed 2017 and the aim is to receive enough books so that every child in year 4 and 5 can have a new book to keep – involving around 3,000 books.
A token will be placed in the back of every book donated, children can then take their token to the library when participating in the Summer Reading Challenge and win a host of fun prizes.
The following prizes will be awarded to schools who have the highest number of pupils handing in their tokens at their local library:
- Free private cinema screening, at The Light Wisbech, for all year 5’s in the autumn
- Free private pool party for all year 5’s in the autumn
- Free activity tickets with Fossils Galore for all year 5’s in the autumn
Plus individual winners can also win tours of the Houses of Parliament.
