Today sees the launch of a major new community campaign which I am spearheading, aimed at bringing healthcare closer to home.
The Treat Me Local campaign is being backed by GPs across the constituency and our local newspapers the Cambs Times and Fenland Citizen, and is a wish list which I am convinced can be achieved with the right amount of pressure and public backing.
The purpose of this campaign is to call for quicker introduction of localised treatment to avoid unnecessary trips to hospital, and to call for a fairer funding allocation to reflect the health needs of North East Cambridgeshire.
In order for the campaign to work, and to force Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the body which buys services on behalf of patients across the county, to act, I need the support of local people. I am grateful the local press is already supporting me in this fight. Together we can bring forward these changes.
Everything we are asking for can and should be delivered within the next twelve months. This campaign won’t resolve all our health challenges, but together they represent a series of practical improvements for patients and our GPs.
The 10-point wish list ranges from extending the opening hours at both the minor injury units at Doddington Hospital and the North Cambs Hospital in Wisbech, to introducing satellite oncology services in the community.
Grassroots support for change through a Parliamentary Petition, which I will present in the House of Commons, is vital. This will lead to government pressure being put on local health managers to deliver the changes identified by the campaign.
People often tell me that they feel the needs of the Fens are forgotten, and that Cambridge and the south of the county get more funding. Well now is the time to be heard. As a community we need to ensure our health needs are given greater priority. Please register your support by signing up today.

I would also love to hear from people with a story to tell about their experiences with the local health service and in particular with the 10 areas highlighted in this campaign. You can email me at email@example.com
