Steve Barclay MP Speaking Commons Chamber

The Prime Minister spoke to Chris Mann on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire yesterday about the issue of gangmasters in Fenland. They discussed tougher regulations for gangmasters and extra powers for the Gangmasters Licensing Authority, including my idea to allow them to issue civil penalties, which would make it easier for prosecutions to be made. Listen to the full audio above.

Having repeatedly raised this issue in Parliament including organising debates in June 2012 and June 2013 and more recently giving evidence to the Joint Committee of Commons and Lords on the Anti Modern Slavery Bill it is fantastic news that the Prime Minister is announcing tougher measures addressing this local concern.
