Following the General Election, today marked the formal start to the new parliamentary session, with the Queen announcing the government’s agenda in her speech at the State Opening of Parliament.
The Government announced its continued support to drive investment and innovation in transport to boost growth and infrastructure. It is great news for North East Cambridgeshire, as this will allow me to keep our local transport improvements on track including; the Wisbech to Cambridge train line, driving forward the campaign to dual key sections of the A47 and fighting for a late night train service from Cambridge to March, Manea and Whittlesey.
This week, the Brexit Secretary travelled to Brussels to start the first official talks to leave the European Union on a mission to deliver the will of the British people.
The Prime Minister has confirmed further details of the Grenfell Tower Residents Discretionary Fund. The Government’s focus is on ensuring that all of those affected by the unimaginable tragedy get the right support as quickly as possible. Once this is underway there will be a full public inquiry into the tragic events.
Thoughts and prayers were with all those who have been affected by the latest terrorist attack in Finsbury Park. Extra police resources have been deployed to reassure communities and this Government will act to stamp out extremist and hateful ideology. The Counter-Terrorism strategy will be reviewed to ensure that police and security services have the powers they need.
