Following the enormous success of Read to Succeed last year, which delivered over 1,500 new books to children throughout North East Cambridgeshire and oversaw a 16% increase in children taking part in The Summer Reading Challenge at their local library, I am pleased to announce that we are now very close to reaching this year’s target. We aim to collect enough donations of new books so that every Year 4 and 5 child in North East Cambridgeshire can have a new book to read over the summer holidays.
A library token is placed In the back of every book donated, which enables children to take part in reading challenges at their local library. Schools with the most children who complete the Summer Reading Challenge can also win prizes such as private cinema screenings at The Light (Wisbech), Leisure Centre Pool Parties and Activity Tickets for Fossils Galore (March).
So far, Bulley Davey, Peter Humphrey Associates, Bowsers, Bretts Transport, Stainless Metal Craft, Foster Renewables, ERMS, Fraser Dawbarnes, Chatteris Town Council, Masonic Province of Cambridgeshire and March Rotary Club have all kindly supported my campaign by donating a total of 2,500 books.
I need just 500 more books to reach my target of 3,000 by Wednesday 5th July and continue the great success of the previous year’s campaign.
