There are two key parts to our summer Read to Succeed literacy campaign. Firstly it is to give all the local children at year 4, the age many start to read independently, a book of their own to keep and treasure to help foster the fun of reading. The second is for the token we include in the book to act as an encouragement for them to go to the library, where this book will count as the first of the six books in the library summer reading challenge.
So alongside over 2,000 books we raised this year covering every local year 4 and many year 5 students too, donated thanks to the kind support of local businesses, councils, and residents, I had the pleasure of presenting certificates with the Mayor of Whittlesey Julie Windle to children in Whittlesey who completed the library summer challenge. Well done to all the children who read six books this summer, and thanks to the parents, grandparents and carers who encouraged them.
