We owe emergency service workers a debt of gratitude for the courage, commitment and dedication they demonstrate in carrying out their duties, which is why the Conservatives are supporting a bill to protect our emergency workers.

The new bill proposes that when a person is convicted of an assault the judge must consider the fact it was committed against an emergency worker as an aggravating factor. The maximum sentence for common assault committed against emergency workers is also set to increase from six months to 12 months.
