We have money ready to spend on the next phase of Wisbech Rail – with £10.5 million already allocated by Government for Wisbech Transport Improvements from which several million pounds can be used for the next phase of engineering studies.
Yet for the last year there has been little action from the Local Enterprise Partnership and Cambridgeshire County Council. Network Rail’s high costs for the scheme have been left unchallenged other than by myself.
Today I am publishing my four page letter to the Secretary of State for Transport setting out what can be done to speed up the building of Wisbech Rail. It sets out how costs can be reduced and benefits enhanced, and how this work can fit with other rail schemes planned in our region.
We have strong support in Government to build Wisbech Rail. Now the Local Enterprise Partnership and County Council need to step up and deliver.
