It was great to welcome the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, to Fenland today to sign the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough devolution deal. In the past major Government announcements tended to be signed in Cambridge and I am keen to ensure the north of the county receives more attention.
In visiting Fenland today to sign this major deal, the Secretary of State showed how devolution is an opportunity for Fenland and the north of the county as a whole to be more central to decision making. It also ensures Ministers gain a better understanding of our area and what we need by seeing it first hand, which I was able to discuss with him in the car on the journey from and back to Peterborough station.
We now have a great opportunity to elect James Palmer as our Mayor to help us take full advantage of the new funding that devolution will bring.
