Just under a month ago we were one of just twelve areas nationally to win a place on the Department for Education’s flagship opportunity area programme bringing £6 million of extra funding to Fenland and East Cambs schools, further funding for a new research school to help share best practice, and priority access to a wide range of other Department initiatives.

Since the announcement I have met again with the Ministers and officials in the Department for Education and wrote to all Head Teachers in the constituency last week to update them on what the scheme means for our schools.

Given how this scheme will impact on the opportunities for local children, I thought it helpful to share with parents a copy of my letter as a number of you have been in touch asking for more information.

I am continuing to work with Ministers on other education issues – such as improving mental health support for schools and achieving a fairer national funding formula – and hope the extra information about the opportunity area programme will be helpful.
