Following on from my visit to Wisbech Cricket and Hockey Club to discuss plans for a new clubhouse and changing rooms, last week I met with Hannah Murphy, the national representative for the England Cricket Board (ECB), in the Houses of Parliament. Last Friday afternoon, Jenny Lambert, the ECB representative for the Cambridgeshire area had a two hour meeting with me in the constituency office going through funding issues in more detail.
We all agree that this is a once in a generation opportunity for the club. This campaign is timely as it received a major boost with the signing of a new 60 year lease this week. The absence of a long term lease has been a key impediment to securing funding in recent years so getting this sorted unblocks this obstacle.
Over the coming weeks, together with the expertise of the ECB, English Hockey and others we will be pooling our data and expertise to clarify what is achievable. I intend to meet with hockey representatives in Parliament shortly and will report further following these meetings.
