I wanted to update constituents on the positive progress that is being made in the fight to save the MIUs at Wisbech, Doddington and Ely. At a recent event which was kindly organised by the Isle of Ely WI, Dr Gary Howsam, GP Chair and Chief Clinical Officer of the CCG explained that the review into the current MIU sites was largely due to them not meeting draft Keogh standards. Following the public meetings in the summer the CCG and I have worked with the NHS and other bodies, who are currently developing these standards. The NHS now recognise that rural areas may require a different model.
The CCG are actively working on developing the Rural Hub model that I proposed following the public meetings, which would retain the vital walk in access to MIU’s and consolidate community services in collaboration with GPs.
