For the first time, an eight-car train stopped at Littleport station – fantastic news for residents and commuters. Earlier this year Network Rail completed a platform upgrade to allow longer trains to stop at the station. Littleport, Waterbeach and Kings Lynn benefitted from a £27million Government funding package to tackle congestion between Cambridge and Kings Lynn. As well as extending platform two to 167-metres, the upgrade at Littleport included providing step free access to platform one. It means Great Northern’s new timetable (which starts on Sunday) can now include an eight-car train at peak times. This is very welcome and will provide a much better experience for passengers. Improved rail services are vital to support local development and regeneration plans in Fenland and East Cambridgeshire and I will continue to push for investment in local transport improvements.
