St Peter’s Church

It’s fantastic news that restoration work to St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church in Wisbech is due to start shortly. The National Heritage Lottery Fund is committing £363,200 to the scheme to revitalize the Grade I listed medieval church. It’s the culmination of three years of hard work by the Parish Project Team and church trustees, supported by the local community – including some great work by children at Nene and Ramnoth, the Orchards and St Peter’s Schools. Special thanks and my congratulations go to Val Spriggs, church treasurer and project co-ordinator. The funding will be put to good use on the church’s leaking roof as well as the masonry and drainpipes. Inside, plans for a new kitchen and toilets will make the church fit for the modern era and allow expanded use as a community hub able to host events. Work should take about a year. The church was built in the 12th century and in 1217 was valued at £33 6s 8d. Now it is a priceless gem that has been safeguarded for the community for years to come.
