A huge well done to Leverington Sports Youth who have done an incredible job fundraising for their new 9x9 3G pitch, raising a contribution of almost £90,000. It means a funding application is due to go into the Football Foundation this month and, if successful, could see a new pitch ready by next summer. The new training facility at Leverington will not only relieve pressure from the grass pitches, but will allow further football opportunities for disabled people, female players and health and wellbeing sessions. I believe grassroots sport is a great catalyst to bring communities together; there are huge health and wellbeing benefits, both physical and mental, and it always brings out the best in the committed and resourceful volunteers. Leverington Club Chairman Matt Warren has just completed the gruelling Bath Tunnel Ultra race, completing 103 miles in just over 24 hours to raise £12,500 towards the 3G project. This is a fantastic achievement and great credit goes to Matt. The Local Football Facility Plan for the area has the potential of injecting up to £10million into football facilities in Fenland and East Cambridgeshire over the next 10 years. Leverington is one of those opportunities and I’m delighted progress is continuing.
