CityFibre to March

I’m delighted that CityFibre has chosen March as its next location to roll out full fibre – following Peterborough and Cambridge. The £5million investment in the town to install a state-of-the-art broadband network that will allow residents and businesses to access Gigabit speeds from a range of Internet Service Providers is a huge boost. It will make March one the best digitally connected places in the UK, drive economic benefit and complement existing improvements planned for the town including the Government’s multi-million pound high street funding.
There will be inevitable disruption as the network in installed, although I am told that works will only be outside individual homes for a couple of days and those premises that are fed aerially or via existing ducts will see little disruption. Good broadband is an essential service that we rely on more and more. The pandemic has shown how important digital connectivity is for working from home, home-schooling and simply keeping in touch with friends and family.
As the rise in smart devices continues, our requirements for greater speed and improved reliability of connectivity will also increase. Of course, I hope March is just the start and this will be rolled out throughout the constituency, and I will continue to make this case so we quickly cover as many areas as possible.
