Steve Barclay has backed the Conservatives' pledge to spend 2.5% of GDP on defence by 2030. This will ensure the UK remains by far the second largest defence spender in NATO after the US.
Meanwhile, Labour has failed to meet the commitment, refusing to name a date by which they would invest the full 2.5% of GDP, and saying they would 'review' the armed forces' resources should they get into Government.

Steve Barclay said: 'The first responsibility of any Government is to keep Britain safe. The fact that Keir Starmer won't commit to properly fund our armed forces will embolden Vladimir Putin and shows he is just not fit to lead.'
