Steve Barclay, Conservative candidate for North East Cambridgeshire: The Government elected by British taxpayers should decide who can come to Britain, not criminal gangs or foreign courts.
I have consistently voted for tougher border controls, which Labour and the Lib Dems have opposed every time. I will do all in my power as your local MP to stop the boats once and for all. The proposed housing of migrants in Friday Bridge camp, which I stopped as an MP, is an example of the damage that illegal migration can do to local economies.
The British people voted to leave the EU in part to take back control of our borders. I am proud to have delivered Brexit as Brexit Secretary and we must leave nothing off the table if foreign courts undermine British sovereignty.
But Keir Starmer has confirmed Labour would halt deportations to Rwanda on day one if they were in power. He also said he would cosy up to the EU and do a deal to take migrants from EU countries. A vote for Reform will simply hand the keys to No10 to Keir Starmer.
Only the Conservatives have a plan to get planes to Rwanda off the ground and put a stop to the illegal immigration putting lives at risk and threatening the stability of our public services.
